He started small...deep within the murky bowels of the University of Nevada Las Vegas' communications department. There, while pursuing dual degrees in Film and Communications, Jeffrey K. Howard began his career as a movie critic on "The Movie Show", a half-hour Siskel & Ebert-type TV show. Slowly, their no-budget show began to build an audience. They became the #1 rated show on the University Network, a consortium of 150 college stations around the U.S. and Europe. But, that wasn't enough...their college-based show ran three years and taped 100 episodes before he came upon a grand idea...to take himself commercial.
Depending on the time of year, he see as many as 5 films in one week to as few as two. The Fall of 2006 alone has over 125 films scheduled for release so, you know he‚ll be very busy. The Vegas Film Critic also reviews home video releases which can increase the number of films to review each week in addition to theatrical releases.
We have a 'good faith' agreement with every movie studio to wait until the day a film opens before releasing our reviews. Most critics also follow this unwritten code. There are always exceptions, however.
Jeff's favorite film is Steven Spielberg's"Jaws." Jeff thinks it's the perfect example of every cinematic element coming together to make a flawless film. He could watch it anytime.

Yes, Jeff was part of „The Movie Guys‰ along with David Neil. For nearly a decade they were reviewing films and using their weekly television show, “The Movie Guys Presents,‰ to bring a new attitude to film critizism. Jeff & Dave split up a few years ago, but remain best friends. Dave is now married and just had his first baby. He named her Ridley Scott after the director of „Blade Runner.‰ I kid you not. Yes, but you can't 'win' an Emmy. It was awarded for Best Interview Talk Show for the year 2000. The Pacific Regional Emmy is on display at the Planet Hollywood in The Forum Shops in Las Vegas. It's by the staircase leading to the second floor. He was also awarded a second Emmy for his television special for the last „Lord of the Rings‰ film. That he keeps on his desk at home.
He doesn‚t use thumbs, stars, bow-ties, or popcorn boxes. He uses grades. Grades are a universal system that everyone can instantly identify with and it's the only system he will ever use; A, B, C, D, or F. If a movie is really bad, Jeff will leave the theater and give it an Incomplete, although, this is a very rare occurrence.
Well, Mr. Smartypants, Jeff did attend film school at The University of Nevada Las Vegas and sees film criticism as a stepping stone to a future career as filmmaker. He has many ideas for films and television shows and his production company, Civilized Society Productions," will handle all of his future projects in the coming months.
