A Better Class of Film - Are We Prepared?
There has been much hype about The Dark Knight, sometimes too much hype can actually be deflated when the presentation doesn’t surpass let alone meet the expectations of the hoop-la. David Goyer & Christopher Nolan have chemistry. Begins is a foundation and Knight is their masterpiece. When you have been a big fan of Bob Kane’s - Leonardo di Vinci influence of a superhero for as long as I have expectations can be deflated easily. The Dark Knight delivers more than was the hype has been. Chris & David realize they were able to bypass unsurmountable corporate loopholes to deliver a more intelligent character adaptation of film. Less candy and actually respect the intelligence of the audience and the power they have with imagination. The Dark Knight is heavy in development that pays off with what they don’t tell you - They juggle the (spoiler ahead) notion that lets get the audience to have a taste of the Joker in the same manner as how Batman deals with him - no history, no understanding, just utter chaos and moral-less havoc. - Bloody brilliant performance by all actors, not just heath but I would nominate Gary for his amazing ability to embody Commisioner Gordan. The irony of the cast you would discount Bale because his role is hidden behind the mask - but his talents and dedication to the craft has elevated Bruce/Batman to a level where the audience can’t think of a better actor to play the lead role. The Dark Knight has given the audience a reason to come to the theatres - not merely to be entertained but to be enlightened by such masterful attention to detail, hard work and a movie that weighs heavy because it doesn’t second guess the audience - I was in awe of its spectacle and was left speechless after the preview - I am actually afraid to see it again on IMAX and be weighted down with emotions on how poetic this film is and will be for generations..be prepared for film noir - brilliance. Kudos David and Chris.
